Using your Kindle device to learn Portuguese
With over 1,400 titles about Portuguese language written in English or in Portuguese, it has never been so easy to practise Portuguese at home or on the go, if you have a kindle device or a tablet.
Since purchasing a Kindle device, I started to explore the possibilities to download tittles in Portuguese in order to catch up with the thriving literature of Portugal, Brazil and Angola.
What I found was surprising: many tittles written in English about Portuguese language that I believe can be very useful for students of the language, some are written by independent authors and others copies of the paperback versions.
Dictionaries, grammars, readers, phrasebooks, novels; Amazon Kindle Store stocks a very good range of books that will satisfy beginners and more advanced readers and for those who use the Kindle App on their tablets, there are versions of books with audio enabled. Some books are free for Kindle Unlimited subscribers, others are offered at a very fair price, ranging from 99p to £15.
See below some of the tittles available at the Kindle Store that I recommend to all Portuguese learners:
- 101 of the most frequently used Brazilian Portuguese vocabulary words
- Audio with authentic native Brazilian Portuguese pronunciation
* Supplementary mp3 audio files are a separate download
- Vibrant photos and images to help memorization
- Useful and practical sample sentences and phrases
In each bite-sized lesson, author Sue Tyson-Ward guides you through simple grammar and vocabulary concepts and illustrates them with clear examples. The accompanying fun and interesting exercises let you practice, practice, practice what you have learned. The lessons are short so you can complete them in twenty minutes or less, and you can go at a pace that works for you.
This is not a simplified study, but rather a selected grammar for adult use that points out many time-saving short cuts. It can be used alone either as a beginner or as a refresher course in Portuguese grammar or it can be an ideal supplement to a phrase book or record course for home study or class use. Contains four appendices covering regular conjugations, orthographic-changing verbs, and irregular verbs. Glossary of grammatical terms. Index.
This book is a study companion written in plain English, which explains the things that you need to know to be successful in learning Portuguese. No prior grammatical knowledge is assumed, and technical terms are explained clearly and progressively. Exercises are provided to help you consolidate what you have learned and build your Portuguese vocabulary. Although the main focus is on European Portuguese, Brazilian alternatives are also given.
This is a great book for young children (Ages 2 - 6) and adults learners who would like to give a try on bilingual books. Each page is beautifully illustrated and brings short sentences in Portuguese and English.
