The Pearson Edexcel Level 3 Advanced GCE in Portuguese consists of three externally-examined papers that assess listening, reading and writing skills.  These assessments are designed and marked by Pearson.  Students must complete all assessments in May/June in any single year.

Portuguese on Demand offers courses for those wishing to prepare for the Portuguese A-Level exam either in our classroom (location) or online.

 

Who can take the Portuguese A-Level Preparation Course?

The Portuguese A-Level exam requires a high standard of linguistic competency in writing, reading and oral comprehension. 

​

Moreover, the Portuguese A-Level exam emphasises critical thinking skills as candidates are required to produce argumentative essays/opinion pieces, conduct independent research, analyse literary texts etc.  

​

Candidates are also expected to demonstrate they are familiarised with some of the cross-cultural aspects of the Portuguese-speaking world, such as economic and socio-cultural issues including migration, employment, access to education, family arrangements, youth life and ambitions, among others.

​

Candidates also need to be ready to work with at least one literary work written by important Portuguese-language authors, such as Eça de Queiroz, Jorge Amado and Mia Couto.  

 

Given the high stakes laid out by the exam content, being able to interact in spoken language (speaking and listening) does not necessarily grant a pass into our Portuguese A-Level Preparation Course as all applicants must be able to read and write in Portuguese language at higher C1 level.  

 

In order to be accepted in our Portuguese A-Level Exam Preparation, applicants must achieve at least 75% in the entry assessment test and be able to commit to at least 1 year of study time before taking the exam.  This study time will be used to take C1 level students to a C2 level of competency as well as allowing time for focused work on exam preparation.

In case the applicant fails to achieve the minimum cut-mark to be accepted in the course, he / she will be directed to the corresponding level from our Regular Portuguese Courses portfolio he / she falls into.
